Rental agencies can provide a legitimate service, but fee requests are not always straightforward. Before paying anything beyond rent and deposit, understand what the fee is for and who the agency represents.
Ask what the fee covers
Request a written explanation before paying. Is the fee for services you personally requested, or is it connected to a home the agency is already offering for a landlord?
Be wary of vague labels such as administration, reservation, contract, or mediation when the work is not clearly described.
Watch for pressure and poor documentation
A rushed payment request can be a warning sign, especially if you have not seen the home, received a contract, or been told exactly what happens if the rental does not go through.
Keep emails, invoices, payment references, and screenshots. If a fee later appears questionable, clear documentation is much more useful than memory.
