Rental viewing checklist: what to ask before you say yes
A viewing can feel like a speed round, especially when many candidates are waiting. Prepare questions in advance so you can judge the home clearly and still leave a professional impression.
Check the contract basics
Ask about the contract type, start date, minimum rental period, deposit, service costs, included utilities, and whether registration at the address is allowed.
If the home is furnished, ask what belongs to the property and what will be removed before move-in. Take photos or notes so expectations stay clear.
Inspect comfort and maintenance
Look at windows, ventilation, heating, water pressure, noise, storage, appliances, and signs of moisture. A quick viewing is still enough to catch obvious issues.
Ask how maintenance requests are handled and who manages the property. A beautiful home can become stressful if repairs are slow or responsibilities are unclear.
Follow up quickly after the viewing
If you want the home, send a concise follow-up the same day. Confirm your interest, repeat any required details, and attach documents only through the requested channel.
If you are unsure, decide fast. Delaying for days often means the home is gone, and applying to a poor fit wastes time for everyone.
